The airline announced its decision on Monday, citing further projected drop-offs in passenger numbers due to coronavirus.
Rex (Regional Express) left open the possibility of a rethink depending on extra government support by the end of the week.
Without a rethink, its Burnie-Melbourne route and King Island routes will be among many across the country which will cease operating.
