SCC chair Stephen Shirley said Mrs Boyd was a unanimous choice from a strong field of candidates.
"We believe we have a great opportunity as a Board to work with our new CEO to shape the future of the delivery of aged care in Tasmania, and while there are challenges, we embrace them," Mr Shirley said.
Mrs Boyd has had more than 13 years in aged care with Goodwin Aged Care Services in the ACT.
She owned a catering business and changed career after caring for her grandfather who had dementia.
Mrs Boyd started as a community carer and worked her way up to become a team leader with Goodwin.
She conceded there were challenges in the wake of the Royal Commission into aged care but was confident about the future.
"I am very passionate about caring for our elderly and am a strong advocate for ensuring respectful, dignified, quality care services to our most vulnerable," Mrs Boyd said.
"The sector as a whole has a lot of challenges as we transition to a new set of standards but there are opportunities.
"I intend to work with our management and staff to provide them with the support, tools and skills to provide the high-quality care that the community wants and deserves.
"I'm very excited to be working for Southern Cross care which has a 48 year history of serving the community."
Mrs Boyd starts as CEO on Monday replacing Richard Sadek who retired after 45 years.
She is keen to visit residents and staff at the nine residential facilities across the State.
Southern Cross Care is Tasmania's largest not-for-profit aged care provider and one of the State's largest employers with more than 1100 staff.
It is a not-for-profit organisation registered as a charity.
