The Meander Valley Council will implement social distancing measures in order at its April council meeting to reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus but other council facilities will be closed.
While the council's next public meeting is yet to be cancelled all other council run events have been cancelled.
This includes public committee meetings and any privately booked gatherings at council managed facilities.
To avoid the spread of the virus Meander Valley mayor Wayne Johnston said council's advice was to avoid all non-essential gatherings.
"The suspension of meetings and gatherings at these facilities will initially be in place for one month however, if this period is required to be extended, it will be," he said.
"Council's management team are meeting daily and following the directives outlined by the state and federal governments.
"We are continuing to support good hygiene practices.
"We understand that as the situation progresses support mechanisms may be required and a review of council's financial hardship measures will be undertaken.
"Most importantly, we have arrangements in place that are flexible and adaptable and the safety of the Meander Valley community is our highest priority."
Despite the uncertainty of the pandemic, the council said it would ensure core services continued to be delivered and promised a range of established contingency plans were in place.
Those plans are yet to be revealed.

Social distancing measures are also being undertaken and cleaning schedules in high use council facilities have been increased.
Council will also be recommending organisations leasing council facilities to take the same the same precautionary action.
Preventative measures have also extended to the Great Western Tiers Visitor Information Centre which closed its doors on Friday at 5pm. The visitor centre will instead replace face-to-face interactions with phone and online booking information services.
"It was a difficult decision, but it is hoped the centre will be open to the public again in a month," Mr Johnston said.
"It is important that people know that Visitor Centre staff will still be working, providing booking and visitor information services over the phone, via email and through the Great Western Tiers website."
Anyone with bookings at a council leased facility are advised to contact the lessee to discuss changing or cancelling their booking.
