With the unprecedented situation rapidly developing around COVID-19, The Examiner is taking precautionary measures to help to minimise the spread to its staff and on a broader scale.
Our products and services will not change. We will still continue to provide the services our print and digital subscribers appreciate and expect.
But from today, we are making responsible precautionary changes to how we operate as a business with our offices to be closed to the public until further notice.
People will still be able place classifieds, advertisements and inform us of news over the phone and via email, while a majority of our staff work from home.
Australian Community Media journalists nationwide will cover all non-essential events remotely and our photographers will take precautions to protect their health when out and about.
This is to create a layer of separation between our staff and to ensure we can continue to operate efficiently and provide you with the news and information about the virus and other notable events, weather and sport through the declared global pandemic.
Many businesses, schools and organisations are doing this and collaborative leadership and response is what is required to reduce the risk to those in our community most vulnerable.
This is new ground for a lot of people and the economic and social impacts of such an event are being felt by Tasmanians, who often take a "she'll be right approach" mentality to serious situations.
Day-to-day functions of business and organisations, big or small, do need to adjust to a slow down in movement as the necessity for isolation increases.
As this unprecedented situation continues to unfold, we must remain calm and not panic. It is a time for true leadership and we all have a role to play when it comes to harm minimisation.
We will need to support each other and adhere to advice from the chief medical officer, health professionals and governments.
