The school released a statement on Sunday night, outlining plans to develop an e-learning program for students for at least the next two weeks before the decision is reviewed.

The statement - jointly shared by principal Andy Muller and board of directors chairperson Andy Gray - stated that the decision was made on the best-available medical advice.

"The directors made this resolution with a primary focus on the health and wellbeing of the college and broader communities," the statement reads.

"Consideration has also been made with regard to the college's Risk Management Framework, our capacity to deliver e-learning and the capacity of the college to lead in this decision prior to the COVID-19 situation directly compromising college operations."

Teachers will spend the next two days devising the e-learning program.

The school believed its decision was based on "informed research and medical advice", and acknowledged this may cause disruption to the school year.

"The college recognises the disruption this decision may cause for some families. However, in making this pre-emptive decision, the board of directors and college leadership have considered our main priority, which is the health and wellbeing of the college community and consequently the broader community, due to the possible impact on our health system," the statement reads.

Earlier on Sunday, Premier Peter Gutwein said the government was awaiting advice on whether school closures were an appropriate measure.
