Sporting events across Tasmania are being cancelled amid concerns about large gatherings and the spread of coronavirus.

The under 17s and under 19s National Netball Championships were due to take place in Hobart in April but because of advice from government about avoiding non essential mass gatherings Netball Australia has decided to call them off.
"It was an incredibly difficult decision not to proceed with the National Netball Championships, especially knowing how much preparation by the athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers goes into this event," she said.
"It is however prudent that we do everything we can to reduce the spread of the virus."

She said they would continue to work with government in relation to grassroots netball events.
"In relation to community netball, we are working with Member Organisations, government organisations and medical professionals to determine the best approach and we will release guidelines to support community netball organisations across Australia in the coming days," Ms Fechner said.
Meanwhile Tennis Australia have announced they will postpone all tennis related events until further notice.
