This edict comes after Basketball Tasmania's tough decision to push on with all competitions in the wake of fears that Coronavirus will spread throughout the state.
The latest LBA measure was about considering the safety of players, coaches, parents and officials.
The next option to replace a handshake is to suggest to teams to acknowledge each other through either a "nod or other gesture" in a sign of respect and sportsmanship.
The association has also stepped up on prevention of the virus through supplying hand sanitiser on benches and wipes included in game boxes - while acknowledging supply could be an issue throughout the season.
ELSEWHERE IN SPORT:
The LBA told its members it wanted to demonstrate vigilance and be proactive in response to current events.
It came about after fielding several emails and calls over daily developments regarding the Coronavirus climate.
The response was an admission of its responsibility to members to be proactive in "our actions and mitigate the risk where possible".
They also stressed the risk of infection from just playing the game was still low, which was "in line" with measures that employers and sporting codes across Tasmania and Australia are taking.
The call from the sport in the state is in stark contrast from Netball Tasmania that has banned games until further notice out of concern for its players and supporters.
