Wine Tasmania's chief executive Sheralee Davies said the cooler than average temperatures during this growing season would likely result in fewer grapes.
"The first grapes have been harvested just in the last couple of weeks but for a lot of our vineyards it is going to be quite some time before the grapes are ripe and ready to be harvested.
"We are about two weeks behind as a direct result of that cooler weather ... we probably won't be done harvesting until April and possibly even into May."
She said the expected quality of the harvest would be good to excellent. "Often with those lower volumes comes even greater quality."
