The justice department confirmed the prison had been working with the Department of Health to assess inmates entering the southern facility to ensure they were not at risk of having the virus.
Visitors to Risdon Prison, including family and friends of those in custody, will also be checked before being allowed in the facility.
The department said visitors who presented with symptoms or potential risk factors could be refused entry.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The Tasmania Prison Service has developed plans to ensure it can manage any confirmed cases of novel coronavirus, including the ability to isolate confirmed cases," a Justice Department spokesman said.
There were no confirmed cases of coronavirus within the prison as of Wednesday afternoon, and no prisoners currently in custody had required testing.
Coronavirus contingency plans are also in place for Tasmania Police, Tasmania Fire Service and emergency services in general across the state.
Tasmania Police Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard said the department already had a Pandemic Influenza Plan, which he said was an "appropriate guide" for its response to the coronavirus outbreak.
"The Tasmanian community can be reassured that planning is well underway within the Department of Police Fire and Emergency Management to ensure continuity of service in the event of an escalation of the coronavirus incident," Deputy Commissioner Tilyard said.
"To date there are only two confirmed cases in Tasmania so a business as usual approach is still appropriate.
"All staff are provided with regular updates and advice from the Department of Health regarding protocols to minimise their risk of infection."
In Tasmania, there has been one confirmed case in Launceston and one in Hobart.
Nationally, there were at least 80 cases as of Wednesday morning, with three coronavirus-related deaths recorded.
