Harley Luke Sturzaker received exactly the same sentence from Justice Robert Pearce as his co-accused Kylie Marie Herlihy, 37, who pleaded guilty in December.
Justice Pearce said on Friday in the Launceston Supreme Court, the terrifying and traumatic crime was particularly bad example of the crime of aggravated armed robbery to which Sturzaker pleaded guilty.
He also pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated burglary, stealing and firearms offences.
"You subjected him to a savage beating. The use of a loaded firearm aggravated the seriousness of the crime," Justice Pearce said.
Justice Pearce said that if he had not pleaded guilty he would have received a five year sentence because of his role in inflicting violence.
He ordered that Sturzaker not be eligible for parole until he had served half the sentence.
He said the fact that Sturzaker was affected by methylamphetamine at the time was no excuse.
"You demonstrated no immediate remorse and you lied to police and left the complainant alone and bleeding.
In relation to the parity of Sturzaker and Herlihy's sentences Justice Pearce said Sturzaker was given some credit because it was not his idea but on the other hand he inflicted the violence.
On Thursday the court heard that Sturzaker and Herlihy entered the man's home twice on the one day.
For the second attack Sturzaker took the weapon which he loaded with two blank cartridges and they travelled in a third man's car.
He put a cover over his head and kicked open the door of the man's house.
He pointed the loaded shotgun and struck him several times with the shotgun barrel while yelling and demanding money. They took two wallets containing about $450 and foreign coins.
