Bike Week isn't about encouraging those who already ride, but getting more people involved Tamar Bike Users Group vice president Malcolm Reid said.

"The aim Bike Week is to get more people on bikes more often. It's making more people aware that there's great benefits to bike riding and encouraging them to have a go," he said.

"That's why most of our events next week are actually aimed at giving people the confidence and the skills to give riding a bike riding a go, and to help them realize that it's fun, it's easy, it's possible, and it's really good for you."

A community ride will start off the event on Sunday from 10.30am at Churchill Park around Launceston's trails. Mr Reid said that's a ride for anyone despite their skill levels.

A BMX session will be held a Civic Square on Monday at 5pm. Free maintenance workshops will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

"They will cover what people want: from the basics to slightly more complex stuff. Again, it's giving people the skill so not only if they get on their bike, they can get better at looking after them," Mr Reid said.

Friday night there will be a night ride through the Launceston bike trails and the CBD. People are encouraged to light up their bikes and themselves. The event will finish at Gunners Arms.
