Two children remain in a stable condition in hospital after surviving a head-on crash which killed their father and two other men on the Bass Highway at Carrick on Wednesday.

The four-year-old and nine-month old brothers were in the back seat of a Toyota Prado when it crossed onto the wrong side of the road and crashed into a Mazda ute about 5.30am.
Police said the children's father, a 33-year-old Selbourne man who was driving the Toyota, was not wearing a seatbelt. He died on impact.

Two Launceston men, aged 63 and 65, also died at the scene.
According to police, initial investigations suggested speed was not a factor in the crash.
Tests to determine whether drugs and alcohol were factors have not yet come back.
Both children were properly restrained at the time of the crash, police said.
A Royal Hobart Hospital spokesman confirmed the children were in a stable condition on Thursday.
Road Safety Advisory Council chairman Garry Bailey said the crash was a reminder of the importance of seatbelts and car seats for children.
"I can't comment on the circumstances of the crash, that's a matter for police and their investigation, but the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, it is such a basic requirement and it can save your life," he said.
Any witnesses or motorists who saw the two vehicles before they crashed is urged to contact police on 131 444.
