Tasmania Police and the Tasmanian Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team conducted a search warrant at a Brighton property on Wednesday.
The man was arrested over allegations he attempted to groom a female teenager in a chat app.
He is also accused of accessing, possessing and distributing child exploitation material.

Detective Acting Inspector Nikala Parsons said Tasmania Police would continue to work collaboratively with partners in Australia and overseas, to target producers and distributors of child abuse material.
"It is important that parents and children are aware of the dangers of online chat applications which provide users with apparent anonymity, and remember to only chat with users who are known to them," she said.
The man was bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates court at a later date.
