TFS chief officer Chris Arnol said the service hoped to attract a bigger pool of men and women for the roles who might not have even considered that their background would be suited to firefighting.
"Our last two recruit courses included people with very diverse skillsets. We have a former hairdresser, professional sailor, nurse, chef and tradies who have all recently joined the ranks," Mr Arnol said.
"All of them have been able to apply the skills from their previous careers to their current roles."
In other news:
Mr Arnol encouraged anyone who thinks they have what it takes to put their hat in the ring.
"We hope men and women will consider their current careers, and take the step to making their dream of becoming a firefighter a reality," Mr Arnol said.
"A day as a firefighter can involve anything from road crash rescue to responding to structure and vegetation fires.
"A firefighter's career can take them from being a frontline firefighter into community education, training, fire investigation and management roles."
Police, Fire and Emergency Management Minister Mark Shelton said the recruitment drive was the largest intake of firefighters in decades as part of the government's investment in emergency services.
"The TFS is trained, capable, well-resourced and ready to respond with the current number of career firefighters in Tasmania at 334, the highest it has been in 10 years," Mr Shelton said.
"We thank our hardworking career and volunteer firefighters, who do an incredible job keeping Tasmanian communities safe."
The 30 firefighter positions will be advertised at www.jobs.tas.gov.au on March 2 with applications closing on March 15.
