The city's ITU World Paratriathlon Series race as part of the Devonport Triathlon will be the last major event for Tapp and her fellow Paralympic hopefuls on home soil before the Tokyo Games start in late August.

Qualification points for the Paralympics will be up for grabs on Saturday, a fact not lost on the 28-year-old from Canberra, who had to withdraw from the Games in 2016 due to a burns injury before the training camp.

The fact that Devonport, a place where she has tasted success previously in the ITU Paratriathlon World Cup, is the venue for such a significant event is set to make the weekend just that little bit more special.

"This is the second biggest event before a world championships, even though being in a Paralympic year that (the Paralympics) is the pinnacle, so it is really exciting that it will be on home soil for us,'' she said.

"They have always done a fantastic job in hosting us in Devonport and have always done a fantastic job in supporting us and worked really hard, so to see them recognised on such a world stage level is a great for Australia and Tasmania as well.

"It is always a privilege and an honour to wear the green and gold on home soil, and this is the last time we'll get to do that this season, so it will be extra special."

Tapp, a two-time world championships gold medalist and a Commonwealth Games silver medalist, will enter her latest visit to the North-West Coast in second spot in the ITU Paratriathlon and Paralympic qualification rankings, but wasn't looking too far ahead.

"We are still in that 12-month qualification period, so for me, which it was last time, I can't say I am going yet and I don't want to say I am going until I have that formal selection letter in my hand, so I like to work as hard now as I do at any time during the year all through the season,'' she said.

When asked how it would feel to be given the opportunity to compete at a Paralympics, Tapp acknowledged it was something she "hadn't given much consideration", as she had been focusing on the present.

Tapp, who suffered a campdrafting fall in 2011 that left her a paraplegic, said she was "feeling in great shape" after a strong start to the season that saw her finish runner-up to world champion Lauren Parker at the Oceania Paratriathlon Championships in Newcastle in January.

The two will again battle it out this weekend, with the field in Devonport to also include Germany's Christiane Reppe, who has competed as a swimmer and a cyclist at three Paralympics.

"It is great to have someone such as Lauren who just pushes you and makes you work that much harder and she is in fantastic form,'' she said.
