Kirsten Ritchie, the founder of Strike It Out Inc - Launceston Feeding the Homeless, and other volunteers cleaned the shipping containers on the weekend before their testing to ensure they were suitable.
One container is proposed to house six pods with separate door entrances and a kitchenette, and the other is proposed to have four pods with a toilet, shower and First Aid area.
Walls would be constructed between the door entrances, allowing users to have privacy, while the containers would be fitted out with appropriate insulation to cope with hot and cold conditions.
The pods come in pairs, with one on top and one below, but the configuration would ensure privacy.
MORE ON HELPING THE HOMELESS IN LAUNCESTON:
Ms Ritchie said it was crucial to have the pods ready for the upcoming winter.
"The winter breaks my heart," she said.
Strike It Out Inc has formed a partnership with AtWork Australia, allowing one-on-one health and employment support for those that use the pods.
A box trailer with about 20 lockers is being constructed to allow the homeless 24-hour access to secure their belongings, particularly during winter when they are at risk of water damage last week.
Strike It Out Inc also started operating a cafe at the Tasmanian Eye Institute on Thistle Street West, South Launceston, to help reach a fundraising target of $60,000 to help have the pods project completed.
Ms Ritchie said they had already received strong support, drawing on the cafe's existing clientele and those wanting to support helping the homeless.
"It's also a helpful way to network in the community, to talk with people, so that's been really good too," she said.
Ms Ritchie said the organisation was thankful for the support of the Tasmanian Eye Institute.
Strike It Out Inc provides meals for the homeless at Royal Park each night.
The organisation is in search of dedicated volunteers to help out at the cafe.
