The offending males are described as being in their early 20's and were both dressed in dark clothing, including hoodie's and face coverings.
Tasmania Police Detective Inspector Craig Fox called for people who were in the Kings Meadows area around the time the incident to come forward if they saw a blue coloured Holden Commodore with a red spoiler.
"We're after any CCTV footage or any dash cam footage of anyone who was driving in the Kings Meadows or Waverley areas at around 9.30pm," he said.
A few hours after the robbery, Detective Inspector Fox confirmed police in the Waverley area took a 22-year-old man into custody.
"He was questioned this morning briefly about some other matters," Detective Fox said.
"We're expecting there'll be some sort of outcome.
"We have a number of people that we wish to speak to, that we are trying to track down at the moment."
In the wake of the robbery, Detective Fox moved to reassure residents a "very small percentage of people" were committing robbery offences.
"We might have had a recent spike in certain crimes, but Launceston is still a very safe place to live, " he said.
"There's a small percentage of people that choose to live in this world of firearms and drugs.
"They're generally dealing with other people who live in that world so the average person going upon their daily business is very safe."
