Tasmania Police and Ambulance Tasmania teams responded to the incident about 2pm.
Police say a 43-year-old man operating a boat towing a ski-biscuit lost control causing the occupant, a seven-year-old boy, to be thrown onto shore.
He was treated at the scene before being airlifted via the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition.

The man operating the boat has undergone mandatory alcohol and drug testing, police say.
