Star power was aplenty at Wrest Point on Saturday night, with Northern theatre companies claiming their fair-share of golds at the 2020 Tasmanian Theatre Awards.

Among the winners to clean up at the awards was relative newcomer IO Performance, who received five awards in the community theatre section.
The company's production: Anatomy of a Suicide, was awarded both outstanding production and ensemble, with director Chris Jackson being named best director in community theatre.
Jackson also won the best sound design in community theatre award - IO was also recognised by the judges with the community theatre judges' award for "outstanding practical and creative support to emerging artists in all facets of theatre".
Theatre Council of Tasmania president Peter Sexton said IO was only launched in 2017, and is already recognised for its amazing support for emerging artists.
TTA awards regulars Encore Theatre showed no lack in stage presence on the night either, claiming 12 awards overall.

Encore's rendition of We Will Rock You rocked the awards night, taking home the most awards for one production with eight.
We Will Rock You claimed outstanding musical production, ensemble and choreography courtesy of Dearbhla Gillen as well as costume design from Anthony Phillips.
Thespians Natalie Reid and Samantha Hammersley were awarded most outstanding female lead and supporting performer, respectively for their roles in the musical.
Judges described Hammersley as a "triple threat" in singing, dancing and acting as she took home the musical theatre judge's award.
Encore's other production Strictly Ballroom also received four awards in musical theatre.
Danny Gibson was named best director, and Michael Stocks and Denise Sam were awarded most outstanding in musical direction.
Performers Christopher Bryg and Tarrant Edwards were awarded best supporting performance and the youth achievement awards, respectively for their roles in Strictly Ballroom.
Launceston Players' Travis Hennessy won best male lead in community theatre.
Fawkes Theatre Company's Daniel Story was awarded the youth achievement award in community theatre for his direction, set and lighting design of The Return.
