Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff will launch a community engagement plan for the new school in Legana on Wednesday afternoon.
The Liberal government pledged to build a new $20 million primary school in Legana if they were re-elected at the last election.
At the West Tamar Council meeting on Tuesday, councillor and former principal Peter Kearney OAM said the opportunity to build a new school was extremely rare and the community needed to take advantage of it.

Mayor Christina Holmdahl agreed with Cr Kearney's comments and will be in attendance at Wednesday's launch.
"We know from experience that when we've involved the community in consultation that have impacted on the decisions we've made we have always got a better result," she said.
She encouraged any residents who are interested in the new school to attend the event on Wednesday.
The community barbeque will take place at Legana Plaza on Wednesday afternoon from 1pm.
