The proposed extension to allow the Marine Rescue to store their rescue vessel, as the existing garage has limited room
The extension would also act as the St Helens Game Fishing Club's club room, which would be used for fishing events, dinner and presentation nights, and other related purposes.
IN OTHER NEWS:
In time of emergency or escort duties, the rescue vessel would be launched from the wharf boat ramp or Burns Bay boat ramp. These movements are the same that are currently taking place.
The north-west wall of the extension will be in-line with the existing building, with the south-east wall extending past the existing facade to allow for the room required for storage.
The extension would required to be quite high with a large access door.
As the building is one of the first seen driving into St Helens, there is a proposal to paint a mural on the south-west wall depicting the marine history of St Helens, beginning from the HMS Adventure charting the East Coast to the modern Marine Rescue and Game Fishing Club.
The extension would also include a new gantry for use by the Game Fishing Club, as the existing gantry was damaged by the weighing of a large catch. The new gantry would have a higher load rating and would be primarily used during competitions.
EngineeringPlus directors Jack and Trin Pfeiffer said the extension would prove to be of significant value to the rescue.
"It will become a vital project for the continuation of St Helens Marine Rescue and a hub for the large fishing community of St Helens," they said.
