Under the spotlight of little more than 2000 spectators strolling through the gates late, Abbey Green patiently started on the bench before making her debut for North Melbourne-Tasmanian Kangaroos against GWS Giants.

The 23-year-old ruck only played a bit role in the side's 18-point win in Launceston, but it was enough time on the ground to get a taste of what is expected every week.

It translated into a hungry Kangaroos side that bounced back after an opening-round defeat six days earlier.

"It was honestly surreal," Green said of the game.

"The support you do have around you with the North Melbourne girls and all the coaching staff - they look after you and you get a really good hype-up to the game.

"This week a lot of focus from the coaches was to go out and just have fun.

"We put that on the field [on Saturday] and we had all the chances in the first half and that really got us into the second half strong.

"We had a lot of tackles from our pressure and that got us on the scoreboard."

Green was the first TSLW talent from the Launceston Blues' program to play AFLW in front of family and friends.

Daria Bannister was cruelly ruled out with injury for a second year in a row a week before the Roos' clash, while rookie Mia King was close to selection two rounds in after being named an emergency.

"It's definitely a big step up from the TSLW, but the preseason with the Melbourne girls for us Tassie girls, it sort of transitions you into it, getting ready for the big stage out there," Green said.

"There's still quite a lot of improvements I can work on, but it was just good to have a run on the field."
