Ulverstone showed it was not going to give its spot on the Premier League ladder away with a massive 63-shot all-rink win over Wynyard.
The big winner for the Robins was the Sam McLean, Robert Eudey, Rhys Saward, Geoff McLean rink who could do no wrong against Grant Crowe defeating the usually reliable Wynyard rink 45-17. McLean received good support from the Colin Willcox, Alan Carver, Robert Franklin, Damien Pankhurst rink who defeated Andrew Woodard 32-15. To make it a big day for the Robins, Eden Moore finished 23-15 up on Tony Haneveer and Chris Dudman defeated Justin Redman 25-15.
South Burnie was determined to hold onto third position, as indicated by their 32 shot defeat of the Devonport Eagles 109-77. In an unbelievable display of heavy green bowling, the Josh Appleyard, Elijah Murray, Vaughan Eaves, Gerald McCarthey rink gave their Devonport opposition no respite defeating them by 43 shots 49-6 - margins seldom seen in the top divisions. The win plus the 10 shot win by Jaryd Brown over Greg Williamson was enough to well and truly cover the two winning rinks by the Eagles. Ken Anderson, Tony Hamilton, Paul Harker and Phillip Rockliffe tried valiantly to achieve some respectability for the Eagles with their 32-18 shot margin over Cam Windram and Dean Martin score by seven over Rick Richardson.
As predicted by this scribe, Burnie had to pull out all stops in their game against the Port Sorell Sharks finally defeating them by a mere two shots 97-95 after sharing the rinks. Once again, it was the Mark Nitz, Nigel Melbourne, Trevor Carpenter, Patrick Saltmarsh rink that proved to be the difference. Nitz defeated Paul Marshall 33-22. The second winning rink for the Tigers was the Patrick Smith rink who won 23-21 over Aaron Jago. The Sharks' Luke Marshall, Kraig Dann, Trevor Eaves, Daniel Carr rink tried their best to get their team over the line with their 30-22 victory over David Gamble. Josh Marshall had three to spare against Tony Simpson.
Penguin gave a little ground in their quest to play in the finals when they were defeated by Latrobe 89-105 after sharing the rinks. In what appears to be the norm, the Tim Douce rink once again led the way for the Demons winning 33-21 over Grant Youd. Tim was well supported by the Anthony Johns, Phillip Moore, Olava Magnus, Neville Smith rink who won 28-18 over Wayne Manson. In a break from tradition, I can report that Greg Douce went down to Cameron Griffiths 25-23 and Julian Brown continued his good form with a 25-21 shot defeat of Garry Courtney.
The ladder with only three games to go is Burnie 159, Latrobe 150, South Burnie 120, Ulverstone 109, Penguin 106, Port Sorell 99, Wynyard 49,Devonport Eagles 48.
Division 1 winners were Ulverstone over Turners Beach, Penguin over Latrobe, Soth Burnie over Sheffield, Port Sorell over Burnie.
Division 2 Smithton over South Burnie, Devonport over Ridgley, Wynyard over Penguin, East Devonport and Railton a draw.
