When Launceston born and raised Jessie O'Donoghue started bob Hair on Tamar almost four years ago she wanted to create an environment customers and employees wanted to be in.
This year she was nominated for the Emerging Leader award as part of the Telstra Tasmania Business Women's Swards.
She said it took a while for the nomination to sink in.
In other news:
"It's been four years of such hard work and I am someone who doesn't have a traditional business background either," she said.
"So everything that I have achieved has been a learning curve along the way."
Ms O'Donoghue said when she found out she had been nominated by a member of her staff she felt like she had achieved what she set out to almost four years ago.
"If one of your team chooses to nominate you for an award like this, it's just the highest honour you can get really."
She said she was lucky to have an amazing staff and hairdressers often don't get the credit they deserve.
"We are on the front line of customer service .... we are there for people's most important occasions and I think we just don't get the recognition we deserve for the work that we do."
She wants young women to know if you are driven and put in enough hard work you can succeed regardless of your background.
