The cafe is co-owned by Kirsten McCreghan and Soraya Gillbanks. The name Cafe 1069 pays homage to the cafe's phone digits, which have remained the same throughout the business's long history as a pizza bar.
Ms McCreghan said the diversity of the menu and offerings available for patrons had made Cafe 1069 a popular addition to George Town's eatery scene.
"I guess [it] just gives George Town another option. There's only a bistro or pub whereas we're a cafe that caters to a vegetarian and all-day breakfast. We do everything and it's all made in-house ... it's all really good," she said.
As an owner, Ms McCreghan said the business hadn't needed to change too much in its first two years, aside from the increase in visitation from outside George Town as the cafe's popularity grew.
"If anything, we've gained a lot more people and we're getting not just tourists and locals, but people from Launnie and Devonport coming to eat," she said.
"We did notice the demand for our breakfast was so popular that we sort of built our breakfast menu up a little bit.
"We also sponsor the football clubs too, often we have the Saints guys or girls in for breakfast on game day."
The popularity of the restaurant has also translated into the reception of a number of accolades as well.
"We received our Tripadvisor certificate of excellence last year as well. We're only open three-and-a-half days a week so that's pretty good ... we also received the Restaurant Guru award for best restaurant in town in 2019," Ms McCreghan said.
The business was closed intermittently in 2019 due to personal reasons.
Ms McCreghan said she had been overwhelmed with gratitude for the support of the George Town community during that period, during her two cancer battles, and in recent months while her mother faced her own cancer fight.
"When we did close ... they were fully supportive of it, being a local family they got behind us ... they've been really positive in everything we've done," she said.
The cafe will celebrate it's two-year anniversary on February 28. Book a table by calling 6382 1069.
