This will be the first time since 2012 that the 24-car field will be made up of just the Ford and Holden brands with eight Mustangs against 16 Commodores.

Six drivers have changed teams and there are two drivers who will share the driving duties in a car under new regulations.

The unknown at this stage is the effect under race conditions of the aerodynamic changes made to both brands after two extensive tests over several days to hopefully avoid a repetition of last year's ongoing changes which became a joke.

DJR/Team Penske Ford Mustangs. Unchanged driver line-up of defending champion Scott McLaughlin and Fabian Coulthard.

This is most likely McLaughlin's last year in the championship with a move to the USA said to be on the cards. The 26-year-old has 223 starts to his credit scoring 43 wins, 84 podiums and 61 pole positions plus two titles and a Bathurst 1000 win.

It's a make or break year for Coulthard with 391 starts,12 wins, 51 podiums and nine pole positions for the 37-year-old. He must know there are some talented young guns waiting in the wings to take over.

888 Race Engineering Holden Commodores. Unchanged line-up of seven-time champion Jamie Whincup and Shane Van Gisbergen with the 37-year-old Whincup possibly retiring at the end of the year.

Career stats are 477 starts,117 wins, 206 podiums and 83 pole positions while 30-year-old Van Gisbergen has started 371 supercar races for 35 wins,101 podiums and 29 pole positions.

Tickford Racing Ford Mustangs. The 25-year-old Cam Waters (111, 1, 8 and 2), 37-year-old Will Davison (428, 19, 54 and 17) and 37-year-old Lee Holdsworth (425, 3,16 and 4) all remain while 27-year-old Jack LeBrocq (77, 0, 0, 0) replaces Chas Mostert

The team was a distant third in last year's teams championship behind the above two so they will need a major improvement to consistently be up at the pointy end.

Erebus Motorsport Holden Commodores. Unchanged line-up of David Reynolds (309, 7, 29 and 11) and Anton de Pasquale (61, 0, 2 and 0) with 34-year-old Reynolds aiming to better his sixth place in the championship last year. The 24-year-old de Pasquale will be looking to prove he is a possible replacement for McLaughlin or Whincup should they not continue next year.

Team 18 Holden Commodores. Mark Winterbottom (501, 38, 117 and 36) hasn't won a race since Pukekohe in 2016 (90 races) but the 38-year-old is bound to be spurred on by new team mate 30-year-old Scott Pye (221, 1, 7 and 1) who joins from the Walkinshaw Andretti United team.

Now with a two-car effort the Charlie Schwerkolt-owned team will be looking for improved results in 2020.

Walkinshaw Andretti United Holden Commodores. Complete new driver line-up with 27-year-old Chas Mostert (186,13, 44 and 18) moving from Ford to the dark side and aiming to improve on his fifth in the championship last year.

He will be joined by 21-year-old 2019 Super 2 champion Bryce Fullwood who has very limited experience in the main game.

Kelly Racing Ford Mustangs. Has downsized from four Nissan Altimas to two Mustangs driven by 37-year-old Rick Kelly (533,13, 59 and 12) and 24-year-old Andre Heimgartner (105, 0, 3 and 1).

Massive effort by the team to make the change-over against the odds and they deserve to be in the mix.

Brad Jones Racing Holden Commodores. Apart from 31-year-old Nick Percat (194, 2, 8 and 0) hard to see 24-year-old Todd Hazelwood, 25-year-old Macauley Jones and 20-year-old Jack Smith troubling the podium steps.

Smith is really just making up the numbers based on past performances in Super 2.

Matt Stone Racing Holden Commodores. At 27, Garry Jacobson is going into his second full season in the main game after time with Kelly Racing and he will have a couple of rookies sharing the other car in 20-year-old Zane Goddard and 20-year-old Jake Kostecki who is the youngest driver in the field.

Team Sydney Holden Commodores. After a difficult birth the new team has announced that the oldest driver in the field, 39-year-old James Courtney (414,15, 59 and 10) will head up the team with the second driver to be announced. Courtney has endured a difficult few years since his 2010 championship and this is a last chance hurrah for the driver who at one point seemed destined for Formula 1. The rumour mill is suggesting Chris Pither may be the second driver.

It seems unlikely the status quo will change with DJR/Team Penske and 888 Race Engineering continuing their fight to win both the drivers and teams championships.
