There will be plenty of racing action to be seen on Monday, February 17 as The Ladbrokes Launceston Cup gets underway at Ladbrokes Racing Centre Mowbray.

While many of us may associate The Launceston Cup with horses, fascinators and fashions on the field, organisers behind Launceston Greyhounds said they do things a little differently.

"This is a family-friendly event, the Launceston Greyhound Club go to a lot of effort to make sure it is as family-friendly as possible," Brennan Ryan said.

"This is our biggest night of the year so we try to cater for everyone, there will be kids activities, cash prize draws and the opportunity to meet the trainers and families involved in the industry.

"We always have a great turnout for the evening, and I would encourage everyone to come along and see what The Launceston Cup is all about."

From 1936 to 2004 the Cup was held at the historic White City track at Invermay, until being relocated in 2005 when the track was built on the inside of the Mowbray Racecourse, where it remains today - rounding out three codes of racing that regularly use the facility.

Family friendly: The cup is a great event to bring kids of all ages to. There is even a chance to meet the trainers and the dogs!

The Cup is the biggest night in the club's racing calendar, six heats in the run-up to the event have determined the runners, with everyone keen to get their hands on the $40,000 prize.

Seven of the eight runners are Tasmanian dogs, however, the current favourite Caishen is the only interstate dog in the lineup.

Mr Ryan said it was tough to keep the trophy in Tasmania.

"Last years winner Hello Rhonda was the first local dog to win since 2014, obviously we would love to keep the cup in Tasmania, but we just have to see what happens on the night."

With ten races to get through the evening starts at 6 pm with the first race scheduled for 7.20 pm, the Cup race will begin at 9.40 pm.

There will be plenty of trackside action to keep you entertained too with lots of opportunities to win big.
