Having clouted an unbeaten 120 against Sheffield before Christmas, the 26-year-old took Westbury for 107 not out to take his season average to a competition-high 77 and bring South within a single point of the league leaders.

Philip's captain Tom Waller praised his star number five for delivering against one of the league's most experienced bowling attacks.

"You know with Flip that he's going to get onto the short balls, he's an unbelievable striker of the ball," Waller said.

"You've just got to really bat with him and give him a bit of time to get in and once he sort of gets in, especially on a wicket like that, there's plenty of runs out there."

Waller scored a career-high 79 as part of a 163-run fourth-wicket stand with the gun left-hander.

The pair now hold records for the highest fourth and fifth-wicket (125) Cricket North partnerships this season, which Waller puts down to their contrasting styles.

"We talk about that as a team because we've got a few good ball strikers, we've got Harry [Sean Harris], we've got Flip we've got Ish [Shah] who's also a pretty good striker," he said.

"It's about batting in partnerships so there's not two people going hell for leather at the one time, but someone just rotates the strike and the other one can have a go."
