Hayley McDougall has parted ways with Devon and is set to join Zoe Claridge around the goal circle along with last year's premiership heroes Mel Philpot and Deanna Wadley.

"That's another big win for us," Cavaliers coach Dan Roden said of McDougall.

"We think Hayley's another quality player and she's still quite young."

While teenager McDougall is a talent for the future, Claridge has been the big-name recruit to arrive at the club since departing the Northern Hawks at season's end.

Once thorn in the Cavaliers' plans during the Launceston derby, the 24-year-old has in fact returned back to her roots where she started playing in their under-age groups.

The attacking pair only turned to the Cavs after having to trial for a spot on the team's list as part of most clubs' annual preseason tradition for all prospective players.

"That's certainly has happened with Zoe and she has made her way back to the club. We're obviously incredibly grateful she has put her hand up to trial for the Cavs this year and obviously was successful," Roden said.

"She's a quality player and a quality person - we're now really glad to have her too."

Roden was in awe, but not in shock when the Hawks best-and-fairest winner in their 2018 premiership year turned up at trials.

"Obviously, we were aware prior to that because players register to trial," he said.

"We had thought at that stage, 'well, this is interesting'. But to be honest we have had players who have been at other clubs before and have trialled from Hawks or Devon, and have trialled with us for various reasons.

"Sometimes you do see these names and without going into it, we've certainly had a number of players from other clubs trial."

While the Cavs are smiling at one end, they have lost their defensive unit that held firm against the Hawks in the grand final, but not to other State League rivals.
