The median price for a house in Tasmania increased by 6.7 per cent to $400,000 over the December quarter.

The Real Estate Institute of Tasmania's December quarterly report listed 1862 sales in the state with 295 sales recorded in Launceston and 216 sales recorded in North-West centres.
There were 532 sales in Hobart where the median price grew to $550,000.
Inner Hobart's median price lifted to $742,500.
Launceston's median house price was $362,500 which was up 7 per cent over the quarter and 3.6 per cent over the year.
The median house price in the North-West was $292,750 was up 5.3 per cent over the quarter and 3.6 per cent over the year.
The West Coast remained the cheapest place to buy with a median house price of $166,000, followed by Dorset with a median of $210,000 and Waratah-Wynyard with a median of $225,000.
The five-year average for the state's median house price was $356,400 and $333,675 for the 10-year average.
The median rental asking price in the Launceston municaplity increased by 3 per cent over the year to $340.
The state's most expensive postcode to buy in is 7005 - or Sandy Bay - with a median price of more than $1 million.
A four-bedroom house in Launceston now has a median rental price of $430.
Rents in Devonport increased by 3.4 per cent to $300 and by 7.3 per cent to $295 in Burnie.
A four-bedroom house on the North-West costs $360 to rent.
Rental prices for houses in the Hobart municipality went up by 10 per cent to $550 and by 15.8 per cent to $440 in the Glenorchy municipality.
The median rental price statewide for the quarter was $360.
Meanwhile, there were 87 new social housing dwellings constructed over the December quarter as part of the state government's Affordable Housing Strategy.
The report released on Tuesday showed 20 low-income households were assisted in building their own home through the government's HomeShare program.
Through the program, residents own at least 70 per cent of the property and Housing Tasmania contributes up to 30 per cent of building costs.
The share from the government is capped at $81,245 for house and land packages.
One household bought the home they were renting from Housing Tasmania over the quarter.
The Rapid Rehousing program assisted 17 households to escape family violence over the period.
Twenty-two households were moved into subsidised private rentals.
The report stated a 12-lot subdivision at Wynyard for affordable housing was due to be completed before March.
Housing Minister Roger Jaensch said the government was investing $258 million over eight years into programs that increased access to social housing, reduced homelessness and improved housing supply across the state.
