Defending men's champion Steven Diez's 2020 Burnie International campaign has ended at the first hurdle after falling to Jason Kubler in three sets on Tuesday.

In the last game of the day at the Burnie Tennis Centre, Queenslander Kubler continued his fine return from the injury woes of last year to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in just under two hours, running away with the contest after things were tight early in the second set to advance to the third round. Diez had had a bye in the opening round.
Centre court also played host to an epic between Japanese duo Taro Daniel and Yuta Shimizu, with number one seed Daniel winning 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) in just under two hours.
Taiwan's Wu Tung-Lin, the 13th seed, defeated American Evan Song 6-0, 6-3, while fifth seed Lorenzo Giustino ended the tournament of fellow Italian Andrea Vavassori 6-3, 6-3.
Australian wildcard Jacob Grills fell to Chinese 12th seed Zhe Li 6-1, 6-0, while Blaz Kavcic knocked out 16th seed Julian Lenz 6-4, 6-4.
First round matches were also completed, with wins to Liam Caruana, Daniel Altmaier, Brydan Klein and Benjamin Lock.
In the women's draw, former champion and eighth seed Asia Muhammad was the biggest casualty in the opening round.
The US eighth seed fell to Japan's Kyoka Okamura 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 in one hour and 49 minutes.
Japanese success was prominent with Mana Ayukawa ending the campaign of countrywoman Haruna Arakawa 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 in a qualifier, 14th seed Himari Sato downing countrywoman Risa Ushijima 6-0, 6-2, while Nagi Hanatani defeated Australian 11th seed Alana Parnaby 6-2, 6-4.
Mai Hontama defeated Australian Laura Ashley 6-4, 6-3 in a qualifier to complete a good day for Japan.
Aussie young gun Destanee Aiava fell to seventh seed Naiktha Bains, of Great Britain, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Amber Marshall was victorious in the all Aussie battle with Alison Bai 6-3, 7-5 to reach the main draw, but Zara Brankovic fell to New Zealand's Paige Hourigan 6-3, 2-6, 12-10.
Fellow New Zealander Erin Routliffe, the 15th seed, retired from her match with France's Irina Ramialison while trailing 6-4, 4-1.
Slovakia's Zuzana Zlochova defeated Poland's Urszula Radwanska 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, and Hungary's Fanny Stollar defeated Taiwan's Lee Ya-Hsuan 7-6, 6-2.
Chris Guccione's comeback to tennis will continue at the Burnie International on Wednesday.
Guccione, who returned to the court during Australia's ATP Cup campaign having not played since the quarter-final stage of the 2017 Australian Open, will team up with Matt Reid to tackle Finland's Harri Heliovaara and Sem Verbeek on centre court on Wednesday.
That match, which won't start before 4pm, will be followed by fourth seed Alex Bolt's first 2020 Burnie International appearance when he faces Italy's Liam Caruana.
Tasmanian Harry Bourchier will play Belgium eighth seed Kimmer Copperjans on centre court, with that game not starting before 1pm.
In the women's competition, top seed Sara Sorribes Tormo will face off against Australia's Ivana Popovic, while there will also be a replay of last year's final with second seed Paula Badosa facing Belinda Woolcock.
Play will start at 10am.
