Alistair Lucas, 25, and Craig Gleeson, 45, died after they fell from a wooden platform in December 2013 and Michael Welsh, 53, died in a mudslide in January 2014.

The Queenstown mine, which has been in caretaker mode since 2014, is owned by Copper Mines Tasmania.

The inquest was put on hold while evidence was contested in the Supreme Court.

An appeal by Attorney-General Elise Archer to include the evidence in question, documents sourced in a WorkSafe report prepared by mining consultant John Webber about Mr Welsh's death, was successful in June 2019 and set aside a previous decision which prohibited the evidence.

Mr Webber's report included information about safety and the mine, the nature of the terrain, staffing movements and other information relevant to the incident and referenced a number of other sources.

In a case management hearing on Friday, Coroner Simon Cooper directed the inquest begin on Monday May 11 in Hobart.

"I note only the 11^th and 12^th will be required but we will reserve the whole week just in case," Mr Cooper said.

The inquest is expected to focus on Mr Webber's report, with counsel assisting the coroner Simon Nicholson saying he intended to tender the report as a guide to the sources it referenced and the documents themselves.

CMT lawyer Chris Gunson indicated the company had no plans to drain and mine the area which was impacted by the mudslide which killed Mr Welsh.

Mr Cooper invited CMT to submit an affidavit stating its intentions for when the mine reopens for his consideration.

The court heard Mr Cooper would not seek to take any further the matter of the emergency response in the case of Mr Lucas and Mr Gleeson's deaths in the inquest.

"I am of the view of sufficient evidence on that issue," he said.

Mr Cooper said it was unlikely he would be making adverse findings in relation to the mine's operator Barminco, who commenced a three-year contract at Mount Lyell in September 2013.
