The Gambling Currency Report released this week showed 13.5 per cent of Tasmanians used a poker machine over that time, compared to 23.6 per cent of Northern Territory residents.
The rate of Tasmanians using poker machines over the past three months was above the national average of 12.3 per cent.
Roy Morgan chief executive Michele Levine said the number of Australians using poker machines over the past 18 months had halved, from 4.8 million to 2.4 million.
Meanwhile, 4.7 per cent of Tasmanians surveyed said they had place a bet over the three-month period.
The participation rate for lotteries and scratch tickets in the state was 44.9 per cent.
