The contingent of 11 umpires visited the charity as part of a CA initiative to see all groups involved in their pathway competitions give back to the community.

Tournament directory Laura Piekarski said the initiative provides perspective to everyone involved in the competitions.

"I think the fact that they don't have to pay a cent to travel around Australia and potentially travel overseas if they are lucky enough to represent Australia, or whoever it might be, they're really lucky."

The group donated $370 worth of groceries along with their time and umpire Kirsten Funston said it felt good to give back.

"Having a tour around this area, the warehouse and rooms in here it sort of brings a realisation in that there's a lot more people out there that struggle than you can actually realise."

Board member at the Benevolent Society Don Leggett said the society was very appreciative of the volunteers and hoped the initiative would lead to more people volunteering.

"We'd like to have more volunteers, we do have a couple of young people, we'd like to have more young people come along if they have time."

He said the Benevolent Society wanted to thank Cricket Australia and the umpires for donating their time and money.

Seven other groups from the national championships volunteered at charity's across Launceston this morning.
