Tourism Industry Council Tasmania chief executive Luke Martin said no matter who wins the ballot, the tourism industry needed a strong advocate in the form of the state's premier.
He said Will Hodgman had been an extraordinary salesman for the state.
"Will Hodgman has left an extraordinary legacy for our industry, but we think it really needs to be built upon, the job's not done," he said.
"Hopefully a successor picks up the mantle and build on it."
He said all issues the tourism industry dealt with cut across every part of government.
"People sit up and take notice when your premier is your Minister for Tourism, and obviously we just think that needs to continue."
