Perth, of all teams, firmly were in the box seat to cause a huge boilover, coming just one week after the strugglers scored a first win of their TCL Premier League campaign.
But the Tigers' tail wagged from 6-76 to add a further 83 runs towards a three-wicket victory with 16 balls to spare.
Longford had got through close calls twice previously against Hadspen following a four-run win days before Christmas and a one-wicket triumph early in the season on the back of a tense 16-run stand for the final wicket.
But the ninth victory came after Perth were first bowled out for 157 in the 40th over.
Captain John Hayes guided the Demons all the way bar five runs of the final score before succumbing to a run out for 72 off 108 balls.
He struck an invaluable partnership for the fourth wicket of 71 with Jake Smith (33) that lifted the hosts after losing their first three wickets in the space of 19 runs.
Alex Jordan later ripped through the lower order to pinch 4-28 while Dilan Sandagirigoda bowled with great control on Saturday to finish with 3-10 off his eight overs.
Longford had a shaky start, losing both Blair cousins for two until Yeshan Wickramarachchi (20) and Josh Adams (26) rebuilt the innings.
But things turned awry once again when the pair and Sandagirigoda all lost their wickets seven balls apart.
Craig Jarman paid back the faith for his promotion from A-Reserve to contribute a patient 31 off 59 balls until the Tigers slipped to 7-120.
Max Magann steadied the chase with 32 off 75 before Nasrullah Khan accelerated late with a near run-a-ball 20 to see the pacesetters home.
Early wickets had Harley Thomas grab 3-37 in the loss.

Hadspen star recruit Kyle Strochnetter wreaked havoc through his former side in an amazing seven-wicket haul.
The seamer took six scalps inside 19 balls in a dominant hand of reducing a hapless Trevallyn from 1-70 to 8-81.
The visitors lost 5-0 at one stage with Thanuka Dabare chipping in to remove Daniel Kirk in the purple patch for a team-high 42 off 65 balls.
Trevallyn were dismissed for 130 and Strochnetter had ended his spell with 7-26.
The Chieftains had set an imposing 9-223 earlier on.
Sri Lankan opening pair Dilan Jayalath and Dabare both made 27 in a typically quickfire start that included a 51-run stand in 40 balls.
But it was captain-coach Liam Reynolds, who proved to be the anchor while notching up 65 off 96 deliveries.
Beaconsfield pushed its case for a home semi-final, skittling out ACL for just 66.
Skipper Sean Barry and left-armer Tim Crawford had the visiting Bluebacks 5-23.
Crawford in only a second game of the summer took 3-17 from eight straight overs.
Barry had returned late to snare 4-35 while Drew Clark cleaned up 2-1 in 24 balls.
But the Swans struggled to run down the meagre target, surrendering up three ducks in the process to ensure the result was in doubt.
Damien Spring though settled Beaconsfield with an unbeaten 25 to seal a four-wicket win.
