Mayor Albert van Zetten said plans discussed included proposed redevelopments of some of the city's most prominent CBD sites.

"We don't want to dampen anyone's enthusiasm, but it's important to let those discussions play out to ensure the best result for our city, and to abide with commercial in confidence issues," he said.

"The community can rest assured that the council is working extremely hard behind the scenes to secure job-creating new development in Launceston."

Cr van Zetten said the details of the projects would be made available to the public as soon as it is appropriate to do so.

"Last year, the council approved 646 planning applications, worth $211.2 million, compared with $209.6m the year before, and we're eager to see this level of investment continue, and indeed increase, in 2020," he said.

"As well as interest from major developers, we're also seeing an increase in investment in residential offerings in our CBD, and we'll continue to work with proponents to realise those opportunities for the conversion of former 'shop top' spaces to inner city living options."

The council is also working to finalise its cultural strategy, which is expected to come before the council in coming weeks. It is also working on the implementation of the My Place My Future plan and the implementation of a draft regional economic development strategy.

"The Smart City Mobility Project has recently gone out to tender, and is aimed at improving our use of innovative technology," Cr van Zetten said.

"It includes the development of an autonomous vehicle readiness plan to ensure Launceston is ready for the vehicles of the future, and a real-time monitoring system for the capacity of our public car parks, among many other projects."

The $94 million River Health Action Plan is set to continue, along with the first sod being turned on the University of Tasmania relocation to Inveresk.

Next stages of the Northern Suburbs Community Recreation Hub is also underway.

Cr van Zetten said 2020 will be a huge year for Launceston.

"There is a lot going on, much of which is very exciting, and some of which we aren't in a position to talk about publicly yet," he said.

"We think 2020 is shaping up to be a great year, one which Launceston has every right to be optimistic about, and we're excited to be working on these projects on behalf of our residents."
