Climate crisis group Extinction Rebellion gathered in Launceston's CBD on Friday to protest inaction on climate change and to reflect on the bushfire crisis on the mainland.

About 150 protesters gathered in the Brisbane Street Mall, lead by the 'Red Rebels'. Others donned masks to represent suffocation due to smoke pollution.
The protesters walked to various locations and stood in silence.

Extinction Rebellion spokesperson Amy Dillon said everyone is feeling grief at the epic loss of life and livelihoods as a result of this season's fires.
"The smoke hanging over Launceston is an ominous daily reminder that we are now living in a new reality, a catastrophically climate changed world that affects us all," she said.
"It is time for action, not just talk; time to tell the truth, halt greenhouse gas emissions and act, regardless of party politics."
