Now he's being recognised for his efforts as part of the Tasmanian Young Achiever Awards.
For his work with St John Ambulance, Mr Kopper was nominated for the Heather and Christopher Chong Community Service and Volunteering Award, which recognises young people who have made an outstanding contribution and have positively impacted people in their community.
The award covers all aspects of community service and volunteering, and acknowledges those who are passionate about making a difference in people's lives.
"It means a lot to me because I am involved heavily in the community," he said.
"I just love giving back to the community."
Mr Kopper first started volunteering with St John after a friend of a friend suggested he come along.
"I started in the cadet program and just worked my way up to the adult division," he said.
"I'm still involved in the cadet division, I'm second in charge there now.
"Within that we've done all sorts of things, gone all sorts of places. I've got two Save a Life awards from the Governor of Tasmania [Kate Warner], so that was really excellent.
"It's good to see what we're doing out there is actually making a difference and saving people's lives."
Winners of the awards will be announced at a gala presentation on Friday, May 22.
