Mr Street confirmed on Thursday he would be contesting the recount for Franklin triggered by the resignation of Premier Will Hodgman.
The former politician was previously elected on a recount in March 2016 to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Paul Harriss and held the position until his defeat at the 2018 state election.
Mr Street is favoured to win Mr Hodgman's seat on the strength of the former leader's preference votes.

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission said the recount will likely take place in early February.
After Mr Hodgman formally hands in his resignation to the Governor next week, the TEC will be notified.
It will then take two to three days for the vacancy to be advertised in the local newspaper and from this date candidates have 14 days to notify the TEC if they will be contesting the seat before the recount is conducted.
TEC deputy electoral commissioner Ngaire Edwards said, given Mr Hodgman held 27,000 votes or two quotas, the result of the recount will not be declared on the day counting begins.
"We would expect an outcome late on the second day," Ms Edwards said.
"That's a massive scrutiny to be had."
