Tasmanian under-16 coach Nathan Warren was unveiled as Darren Trevena's successor on Thursday after a long association with Northern Tasmanian football.

Speaking from UTAS Stadium, Warren said he was excited to take on the role.

"I've been tied up with the Devils now for five years so I'm delighted to get a gig in there full-time," Warren said.

"I've worked with the past two talent managers and learned a lot off those two guys who were really great at their jobs, so I just want to transition really smoothly and keep the boys excited and wanting to learn as much as they can.

"My philosophy is be the best version of yourself you can be and that's what we want the boys to do."

Tasmania endured another lean draft year in 2019 with Southern pair Mitch O'Neill and Matt McGuinness the only new Apple Islanders to enter the AFL system.

Warren said he hoped to bring through excellent community members as well as excellent footballers in 2020.

"I'll do my best to help them in life - because if they don't get drafted they've still got to do something in their community," he said.

"I'm going to try and sell the brand big-time this year and take kids into the hospital at Easter time because if they do get drafted they're things they're going to have to do.

"They've got to get comfortable being uncomfortable so I'm a big one in that and getting the brand out into the community."
