A Deloraine man overtook an unmarked police car on the Bass Highway while speeding and drunk, the Launceston Magistrates court heard on Wednesday.

James Matthew Trimmer, 23, was travelling at 127km/h at Elizabeth Town when stopped by police.

He blew 0.109 on a breathalyser but opted for a blood test which recorded a higher reading of 0.128.
He pleaded guilty to exceeding the prescribed limit.
Trimmer had been drinking brandy without a mixer, defence counsel Bill Griffiths said.
Magistrate Ken Stanton said that if Trimmer wanted to drink brandy he should wait an appropriate period of time before driving.
Mr Stanton disqualified Trimmer from driving for 12 months and fined him $1600.
