Simmons will be in town performing at Boag's Brewery as part of Fresh Comedy, raising money for the Royal Fire Service in NSW.
"This is just me, having fun and doing a bit of stand-up," he said.
Simmons does a lot of stand-up and performances, appearing in television programs such as 8 out of 10 Cats. He said his main reasons for coming down to Tasmania were two-fold, escaping family and eating scallop pies.
"Dude ... to be honest ... I'm just getting away from my wife and children for a couple of nights," he said.
"This is just more coming down to Tassie and eating some scallop pies to be honest, and helping out the RFS.
"It's just a really lovely place, I get to come down and do what I love to do."
In other news:
Simmons said the show will be his usual high-energy and ludicrously fun.
He said while certain, unnamed politicians have been the subject of ridicule by comics lately, that's not his style.
"I've not written anything political at all, I think there's enough of that," he said.
"I'd rather say something contentious rather than just attack that guy."
"All I'm excited about is no wife, no kids, Boag's Brewary, scallop pies on the way up from Hobart - daddy's gonna get loose, it's going to be a really fun time."
