Returning to Tasmania last season after eight years in Melbourne, the first-year Roos coach has set about reeling in former players and residents in an effort to claim the club's first silverware since 1979.
Latrobe and ex-TSL star Brayden Butler headlined Deloraine's off-season signings, with Jake Freshney, Dalton Murfett, Addy Cosslett and Tait Highet also arriving or returning.
A Hec Smith Medallist in his first year back, Dornauf's efforts are not driven by a desire for personal or even club glory, but to give back the town he was raised in.

"The feeling around the town is we really want to push for one for the town and give something back," the 27-year-old said.
"Unfortunately despite many appearances in grand finals we haven't got over the line so we're putting everything in place that we give ourselves a chance to get to that stage.
"There are people around the club that played in that 1979 grand final.
"Our trainer Frank Walker is still training since 1979 - I think it's about 54 years he's been training for and if you look back at the photos he's standing there on the side and all the way through.
"So that's some inspiration for us as well, that those sort of people stick around and the reason why is not only community, but to achieve success through winning a flag.
"That's at the forefront of our minds."
Finishing the 2015 home and away season in second spot before a straight-sets finals exit, the Roos have since completed four consecutive bottom-two finishes.
While Rocherlea looms as premier division's flag favourite after adding Josh Ponting, Zane Brown and Ben Elmer to a side that nearly went all the way in 2019, strong recruiting should see Dornauf's side bloom into a serious finals contender in 2020.
"We've been pretty prominent in the recruiting process and we've had an emphasis on players that have previously played at the footy club and with close ties to Deloraine," Dornauf said.
"That's more so that we can get more than one year out of them - we can start looking towards two, three, four years.

"We've also recruited quite heavily from the North-West Coast - we've found a lot of boys venture into Launceston but also want to keep some sort of tie to where they grew up and Deloraine offers that as an in-between.
"In terms of expectations we're putting on ourselves that we'd like to be a very successful club in 2020 across all three grades and setting the foundations to have a female football team in the league as well.
"We're quietly confident but it's a long season."
The Kangaroos will get their season under way against South Launceston on March 28 before playing their first home game the following Saturday against last year's wooden-spooner Scottsdale.
