The Tasmanian Fire Service has confirmed the smoke covering the state is from bushfires in NSW and Victoria.
Northwesterly winds will continue to bring smoke across the state from Tuesday and all day Wednesday.
Smoke is expected to clear by Thursday.
Thunderstorms and possibly hail have been predicted by BOM in the South on Wednesday afternoon - said storms will last into Thursday.

BOM forecasts a scorcher of a day on Wednesday, with temperatures predicted to get into the low 30s around Tasmania.
Launceston's maximum on Wednesday will be 29 degrees, while Hobart is expected to experience a max of 31 degrees.
The hottest locations in Tasmania on Wednesday will be New Norfolk, Brighton and Richmond which will all reach 33 degrees.
Things are expected to cool down on Thursday, with temperatures expected to drop to the mid-to-high teens across Tasmania.
