The 77-run loss to Perth Scorchers saw the Hurricanes dismissed for just 98 - their lowest score at Bellerive Oval, their lowest score against the Western Australian franchise and their second-ever two-figure score.

Veteran George Bailey (36 off 31), who is in the last few games of his storied career, and opener Caleb Jewell (28 off 24) were the only two to really threaten with the willow.

The loss came after another solid showing with the ball, with Clive Rose impressing in the power play and Nathan Ellis at the death, as Perth made 7-175.

It was a total that looked it would be much greater when Josh Inglis (73 from 46) and Mitch Marsh (40 from 29) combined in the middle overs.

It leaves the Hurricanes well off the pace in BBL09, with their third loss in the row seeing them sit seventh on the table.

"We've spoken about it (batting) and tried to rectify it and it is just up to individuals now (and) someone has to stick their hands up and make big scores, as that is all we can do to get back on track,'' said Milenko, who made 19 from 15 at number six, including the only maximum of the 'Canes' innings.

"We've left our run late now and we've obviously got to kick into gear quick smart (and) we've made it difficult as we're a long way behind the pack now."

But Milenko, who has also spent time opening and at first drop this campaign, believed there was still a glimmer of hope for the Hurricanes, with the competition this summer having a final five rather than a final four.

"We'll regroup, but you never know as these tournaments are funny as when you seem to get on a roll and play good cricket those back-to-back wins seem to come your way,'' he said.

"But we've got to do that now, as it is either that or pack up and go on home, so we'll certainly dig in and have a crack."

Milenko, who has managed just 68 runs in eight innings in BBL09, said "you have to expect those things" in regard to his continual movement up and down the order.

"It didn't quite work out the way I planned, unfortunately, but we've got some great world-class cricketers in our team and those guys went up tonight and it just wasn't to be,'' he said.

One of the batsmen who has failed to fire this campaign has been South African import David Miller, who has made just 91 runs this summer after a third ball duck on Monday.

The Hurricanes will next be in action on Thursday night when they travel to the SCG to face Sydney Sixers, before playing their final home match at UTAS Stadium against Adelaide Strikers on Sunday.

The 2.45pm fixture will be Launceston's second and final BBL fixture for the season, following a rain-affected four-run loss to the Melbourne Stars last month.
