The incident occurred about 1am in Wellington Street at Longford.
Another man, also in his 20s, and a woman in her 50s were home at the time.
Tasmania Police Acting Inspector Dean McMahon said it was fortunate no one was injured.
"At the time one of the adults in the residence as ran outside and observed a twin cab, dark coloured Nissan Nivara, near the area. Police believe this is the vehicle responsible," he said.

Police units from Longford and Launceston attended the scene and are now investigating the incident.
The bullet has been recovered and is under forensic investigation.
It is too early in the investigation to establish the motivation behind the incident, or if it was targeted, Mr McMahon said.
He said the community does not have to be fearful.
"Tasmania Police are disgusted by this behaviour because obviously it puts the community at risk, and that's why we're so keen to bring the people responsible to justice," he said.
"What we are concerned about is people discharging a firearm in public. It places people at risk. You just don't know where the bullets going to go."
Despite a number of incidents relating to firearms in the past few weeks, Mr McMahon said there was not an issue with them in the north.
"Sporadically we do have incidents of this nature," he said.
Tasmania Police is appealing for information or witnesses. Anyone who saw a dark coloured vehicle in the area, with silver wheel arches and skirting is asked to contact police.
