The maiden goal clinched an invaluable point for the second-placed City in a 2-2 away draw on Saturday night against Brisbane Roar.
The visitors earlier trailed twice, but the one-time Riverside Olympic junior just moments later equalised the second time after the interval in the 48th minute.
The right-back's score was certainly one to remember.
Teammate Josh Brilliante found on the right, just outside the penalty area, an unchecked Atkinson, who took a touch, looked up and rocketed in a powerful right foot that had left Roar keeper Jamie King no chance.
