In reply, Sheffield looked to be in trouble falling to 6/34 as Sam O'Mahony (5-17) and Sam Fogg (3-20) ripped through the Mountaineers top-order, but Marc Simonds (29) and Aaron McNab (32) combined for a brilliant 55-run partnership to ensure their team secured first-innings points, before they were bowled out for 93, giving them a lead of 7 runs.
Devonport openers Brad Moore (4 not out) and Eli Sheean (5 not out) endured a tricky 5-over period at the end of the days, leaving them 0-9 with a lead of 2 runs.
Ulverstone have taken out Day 1 honours in their match against Wynyard at UCI Oval. The Black Caps won the toss and elected to bat, and lead by captain Josh Walmsley (65), along with handy contributions from Jacob Snare (25) and Rohan Speglic (20) made 185. Jye Gardam (5-65) was the standout bowler for Wynyard, with Matthew Kinch (2-7) also chipping in. In reply, the Blues started poorly and finished 6-53, as Coby (3-10) and Josh Walmsley (2-8) put Ulverstone in a great position going into Day 2.
A maiden Cricket North West century from Burnie's Shaun Redman has led his side to an imposing first innings total in their clash with Latrobe at the Latrobe Recreation Ground. The Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bat and were reduced to 2-24, with Lachlan Walsh (2-34) making early in roads. Robert Mason (33) and Tharaka Mudiyanselage (40) got Burnie back on track at 5-148, but wickets from Dion Parsons (2-37) and Jacob Webb (2-85) caused a collapse of 3-3 to put the game back in the balance at 8-151. Redman took control of the game, making 103 not out, combining with Jeremy Plant (64 not out) in an unbeaten 140-run partnership to take Burnie to 8-291 at stumps.
