The development application proposes to extend an existing winery building at the 370 Relbia Road site for a staging area of sparkling wine, bottling and packaging production and storage.
In the application Launceston's 6ty Degrees director and planning consultant George Walker said the extension would enhance the efficiency of the winery's existing operation and improve site safety.
"The proposed extension will not increase the production capacity of the winery, increase the number of employees or increase vehicle movements to and from the site," he said.
"A small area of vines at the southern end of the winery have been removed to facilitate the extension."
Mr Walker said the extension at the southern end of the winery would provide additional dry storage area for goods stored outside at the moment.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The new 1091 square metre building will allow it to relocate its bottling and packing operation and in turn free up more space to store and manage wine barrels.
"Currently, surplus wine barrels are managed adjacent to the wine production area outside of the barrel store," Mr Walker said.
"The barrel store building will provide a controlled environment...this will improve the ability to manage the quality of wine stores in barrels and reduce wine loss and barrel deterioration which occurs where wine barrels are stored outside."
The application can be viewed on the Northern Midlands Council's website and is open to public comment until January 17.
